Either/Or

Have you ever been caught in either/or thinking?
Those times when it feels like life is presenting only two rigid choices, each with its limitations, and neither fully aligns with what we truly want.
This “either/or” mindset can be a reminder that we’re viewing the situation too narrowly and that there might be a “third option” just outside our current perspective.
This “either/or” trap often limits our thinking without us even realizing it.
We get drawn into choosing between opposites, like strict or lenient, secure or risky, yes or no, convinced that one path or the other is all there is.
But what if, instead, we let go of the need for quick answers and allowed ourselves to explore possibilities beyond what feels obvious?
Often, there’s a “C” we haven’t yet thought about, a way forward that’s creative, balanced, and better suited to our true goals.
When we hear either/or, it’s time to sit up and take notice, recommends Marion Franklin in her book.
It’s a signal that our thinking might be too narrow it’s time of pausing and asking, “What else is possible?”
Often, it’s this openness to a “third way” that brings us the clarity and freedom we seek.
